2001 Shiraz Viognier

Shiraz Viognier 2001

The 2001 is one of the great vintages.  It shows distinctive cherry, bramble-berry and game characters interwoven with an intense, spicy complexity.  The flavours are intense and persistent.

The first in a run of warm years. A benchmark Clonakilla.

Picked between March 31 and April 10.

7% Viognier and 30% whole bunches included in the ferment.

9 – 13 days on skins including three days pre-ferment maceration.

12 months in oak, one third new Sirugue, Francois Freres and Bossuet barrels.

Best Shiraz, Best Red Wine, & The Wine of the Year, in the 2002 Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide
