2021 Tumbarumba Chardonnay

Clonakilla is a family winery, established at Murrumbateman, New South Wales, in 1971.

This Chardonnay is sourced from Heather and Rob Johansen’s block in Tumbarumba, 700 metres above sea level.

“complex and utterly charming” – Mike Bennie

From the cool 2021 vintage, a fine-boned, citrus-edged Chardonnay with stone fruit and almond meal notes. Elegant and bright with the classic Tumbarumba mineral acid backbone.

From Johansen’s Vineyard, a plot that a few keen winemakers have an eye on (for a breadth of varieties), and here Clonakilla do good work with chardonnay from there.

complex and utterly charming

Flinty and chalky, lively and bright. Lime on green apple, strong in this regard, some light, almond nutty notes and a finish that marries that savouriness and an almost Jura-like saline-mineral note.

This really is a beautiful wine

The whole lot together is delightful, fragrant, quietly complex and utterly charming. This really is a beautiful wine. Kudos
