2021 Riesling

“One of Australia’s finest rieslings; a benchmark riesling…” – Mike Bennie

Murrumbateman’s cool, continental climate and decomposed granite soils are perfectly suited to Riesling.

After the smoke-ravaged 2020 vintage the 2021 season came as a blessing with regular falls of rain and cool conditions just perfect for Riesling. The long ripening window has given us fine, detailed fruit characters and enabled plenty of fresh natural acid retention in the wines.

Drink now for its razor fine floral, citrus-edged fruit or cellar for up to 15 years and watch it develop lime and toast characters with age.

12% Alc/Vol

pH 2.94

TA 8.8 g/L

Residual sugar 4.0 g/L

One of Australia’s finest rieslings; a benchmark riesling for me.

Loads of floral perfume, preserved lemon, pretty talc scents, a bit of warm river pebble, lime juice.

beautiful expression

Delicate in the palate, more lime juice here, tart and with great energy, crispness, cool herbal notes, some chalky pucker and endless mouth-watering length.

will last a generation

Tightly wound but slightly juicy, if you get the drift. Beautiful expression, high toned saline mineral acidity, refreshing now to the max, will last a generation.

Mike Bennie - Winefront

A seriously good, young dry riesling with a striking mineral edge to the nose of fresh lime juice, wet stones and gentle herbal notes.

seriously good…real intensity and depth

The palate has real intensity and depth with a vivid citrus and white-peach fruit drive. Snaps dry and the flavours hold pure and long.

Nick Stock - James Suckling.com

Lemon-green in colour, offering herbaceous notes of nettles, wet rocks and lime zest. Its crisp and fine line of acidity unfurls a lovely delineation of flavours, with a subtle spritz evoking a current of electricity running through.

pitch-perfect riesling that will age beautifully

This is filigreed and exciting. Some clever winemaking balances a hint of residual sugar against a cleansing sweep of acidity. It’s quite Germanic in its effortless composure. This is a pitch-perfect riesling that will age beautifully.
