2019 Chardonnay

This Chardonnay is sourced from Heather and Rob Johansen’s block in Tumbarumba, 700 metres above sea level.

From the warm 2019 vintage, a complex Chardonnay with citrus and stone fruit flavours.

Elegant and bright with the classic Tumbarumba mineral acid backbone.

13.5 % Alc/Vol

A light and vibrant yellow colour, youthful and fresh. A complex young nose showing white nectarines and figs, lemon curd and polished oak.

Bursting with cool-climate credibility

The palate is creamy with a lemon zest drive that carries it right through to a sustained finish. Nervy and very young. Everything in its right place for a bright future. Bursting with cool-climate credibility.

Nick Butler - The Real Review

Interesting chardonnay out of Tumbarumba.

It places its bets on the future. It’s lean and direct with bacon-y oak sitting on melon, nectarine and citrus.

It’s taut and textural

with a honeysuckle note rising through the finish. It’s on the way to a good place but leave it alone for now.

Campbell Mattinson - The WineFront

Clonakilla is a standout Canberra region winery far better known for its red wines than its whites – despite producing small quantities of top-notch riesling and viognier.

Lovely drinking here with elegance and length

Here owner Tim Kirk has purchased fruit from high-altitude Tumbarumba to make a stellar cool-climate chardonnay. The fruit comes from a block 700 metres above sea level and offers an amalgam of stone fruit and citrus notes, with plenty of brisk acid adding the spine. Lovely drinking here with elegance and length.
