2018 Pinot Noir

The Pinot is lovingly made in tiny quantities.

It’s a blend of fruit from vines on the T&L block (clones 777, 115, 667, Abel, Pommard) and the old, unidentified clone planted by John Kirk at Clonakilla in 1978.

Little by little, through careful work in the vineyard and winery, we’re building layers of complexity into this wine.

This is a particularly elegant pinot for Clonakilla, more about violet fragrance and refined, glossy wild strawberry and raspberry fruit – even allusions of manuka honey – than it is about tannins, oak, structure or density.

floral flamboyance makes it enticing from the outset

And yet it is cradled gently in a super fine web of tannin texture. Its floral flamboyance makes it enticing from the outset, the perfect partner to cuisines preferring a lighter take on pinot.

Tyson Stelzer

It doesn’t scratch the pinot noir itch but as a dry red wine it’s lovely. Take both sides of that statement as true.

Strawberry, plum and black cherry notes meet anise and exotic, citrussy spice.

tastes tip top, with detail, spice, polish

Many wines made with grenache nowadays try to emulate pinot noir; this tastes like a pinot noir trying to emulate grenache.

In that context it  and a wide dynamic range all on song.
