2017 Western Vineyard

The Western Vineyard is one of the many individual parcels that make up our flagship Shiraz Viognier.

This wine comes from the seven rows of Shiraz right next to the winery, planted in 1990.

50% whole bunches. 6% Viognier. Natural ferment. Two years in new French puncheons.

13.5% Alc/Vol

Ultra fragrant wine with high toned floral notes, white flowers, red berries, faint pepper.

Finest silk texture, succulent, a crispness and vitality, exceptional length and fine red berry flavours staining the palate.

just stunning

Some game meat faintly chiming in, pepper again, almost tactile, a keen, firm finish. Just stunning and such an evocative voice from this parcel.

Western Vineyard 2017’s bold fruit, soaring oak, and stalky whole-bunch flavours take it in an entirely different direction from Syrah 2017’s subtle power or Shiraz Viognier’s floral, succulence.

a revolutionary Clonakilla wine

Alone of the three Clonakilla flagships, it’s matured in all-new oak, perhaps the biggest single contributor to its attention-getting style.

Even at this early stage of its evolution, the whole appears greater than the sum of its parts – even if the parts stand out individually for now. This is a revolutionary Clonakilla wine to revisit in future.
