2014 Shiraz Viognier - Museum Release

The Shiraz Viognier is our flagship, a careful selection of the best of the Shiraz Viognier parcels we craft each year from our Murrumbateman vineyard.

October frost, November hail, a late-January heat wave and April rain. 2014 was a vintage of extremes. The vines took it all in their stride of course and the reduced yield, hot mid-season and cool finish to the vintage produced a wonderfully fragrant, dark-fruited wine, perfectly poised on the mid-point between elegance and power.

A deep-set nose, brooding almost. This has beef stock, high quality dark chocolate and cocoa powder notes, opening to reveal a wealth of ripe and bright summer berries, dark plums and a granite-like layer; this has impressive aromatic depth.

masterfully executed…great wine

The palate instantly captures with fine layered tannins that coat the mouth. Flavours of chocolate coated black cherry, pepper, kirsch and plum liqueur roll playfully through. This is so complex, so entrancing and masterfully executed. Great wine. Best from 2022.

Simply awesome fragrance. Incredible spice and black fruit, plus a wonderful herby freshness and a subtle smoked meat aroma in the background.

superb vintage

Hugely intense and lengthy, but never overdone. A superb vintage of a wine that deserves every bit of its stellar reputation.

The bright hue and perfumed bouquet run true to type for this modern classic, setting the bar for the co-fermented blend several years ago.

modern classic

It has a set of flavours that are unique, and can fool even expert tasters in blind tastings, its cross-thatched flavours (not textures) need careful navigation.
